Group Work at NRC

The impact of rape / sexual violence on a survivors is enormous and far-reaching. Survivors can experience all sorts of trauma which can manifest as panic attacks, flash backs, body memories, difficulty with relationships and sexual problems.
Disassociation is also a common coping mechanism for survivors to distance themselves from the full horrors of the abuse they have suffered or are suffering. This can often leave survivors feeling isolated and not connected to the outside world.
It is possible to recover and heal from the trauma of abuse and this peer group will help you achieve closure, and help you begin to become who you want to be.

Aims

To provide the group with a safe women only space to explore and recognise behaviors that are abusive.
To empower young women to be who they want to be through choice and not circumstances.
To recognise negative or self-harming coping strategies.
